ideally, Spring should really have began a couple weeks ago but if you live here in Canada, well you'd probably know this is never the case.
Despite the lingering winter snow and occasional freezing rain, I find that in my soul I feel so much more alive than I did in the deep winter. and I think this is because I have hope in the anticipation that Spring is near. I feel hopeful because I know the season is finally changing, regardless of how slow it may seem.
Spring has never really meant all that much to me before this year, but today it's just hit me just how necessary it is. without it, there'd be no growth whatsoever. While winter dragged on, and dried me out to the very core, spring time will bring me life again.
I am so very grateful that we have an amazing God who sees it fit, to change our seasons and bring us hope with each new one.
As winter turns into spring, my biggest goals are to live slowly and intentionally. I want to make time for myself, for my soul and for my friends too. For me, time for myself may would look "self-care". So for example, journalling down my thoughts and feelings, or crafting something for my room.
Here are a few activities for the Spring time that may help you create time for yourself and live softer and slower:
- starting your day without social media
this is one i've just recently started doing and my mind honestly feels so much more clear and at ease for the rest of my day.
- journaling out your thoughts and emotions
maybe write down the "why" for each emotion you've been feeling and get to the root of what makes you feel that way. if possible, you can then take intentional action towards a positive change.
- nourish yourself; eat well
my typical "feel good" kinda meal would be an acaĆ bowl because it just makes me feel like i'm caring for myself in someway. Try making one "feel good" meal a couple times a week and you'll find you feel so much better about yourself and life in general!
- go somewhere with warm vibes or out in nature
if you're more of a nature person, maybe go for a walk and clear your head or go for a run.
- listen to uplifting music
you know those songs that make you feel understood, cared for, and loved? or the ones that remind you that there is something out there significantly bigger than yourself? find those songs, listen to them.
- create something
i'm no artist but painting , sketching, photography or even crafting help me slow down and breathe. I want to be intentional in doing more of it this spring!
- write to a friend.
- challenge yourself to read
i'm not going to lie, but i've found ever since starting uni, i've lost all the desire to read for pleasure. Partly because of time, partly because there is no existing pleasure in assigned readings. but i can't help but remember just how happy reading used to make me and I hope i can somehow do more of it this season.
- spend time alone
this is my favourite thing to do. it may seem strange but i know that sitting alone in my room, left to my own thoughts–creates such a calm in my soul that i cannot even explain. Often times, being around people for too long drains me and slightly overwhelms me so i want to create more intentional "alone time" especially if i know i'm going to be around people for the majority of my day.
Although there's a ton more slow living activities for Spring, these are the ones I can think of right now!
if you get anything out of this, may it be that being kind to yourself is just as important as getting good grades or finding a job or finishing your semester well. Especially this exam season, remind yourself that you are so very important and worthy.
Take it slow!
with love,
Princess
